Summary : An App to Help You Study

STUDYBLUE supports users in preparing for tests using a digital flashcard system. After registering with the class, users should first tap the 'Lined' button on the top left of the screen. From there, they can tap the 'Make Cards' button, which brings them to a new screen. At it, users can create multiple flashcards by adding a term and definition to each flashcard. Next, they tap the 'Done' button, which saves the flashcard to a deck, and users can add new flashcards to it. Users are then returned to the home screen where they can choose to engage the cards using the 'Flip Cards' option, or evaluate their knowledge o the cards via the 'Take Quiz' option. Other options in this app include a 'Class' option that allows users to look up their school, find their class and teacher, and then join it. Once joined, users will have access to three class features that include: (1) The 'My Materials' feature that lets users see the cards they created for the class, (2) the ' Class Materials' feature that contains flashcards, notes, quizzes, and other documents shared with the whole class, and (3) the 'Classmates' feature contains a list of students enrolled in the class.

Please Note: The features listed in this description are available for free. Users must upgrade to access additional materials.

Instructional Ideas

  1. After taking notes based on a text or lecture, students can create flashcards for key terms, facts, and ideas that were presented. Students can use the flashcards to keep the information fresh, or they can share it with other students in the class.

Studyblue Quizzes

In August, 2013, Study Blue introduced Class Stats, a formative assessment tool that builds upon the self-assessment capability already in place for students. StudyBlue scores students' study sessions and tracks their progress. The Class Stats tool aggregates this data, allowing instructors to monitor individual and group study routines, track student progress, and adapt their instruction to focus on areas where students are most challenged. With Class Stats, teachers can integrate StudyBlue into their routine without having to make major changes. Teachers can track student progress with a weighted aggregated average 'Class' or 'Individual' score, giving a real-time view of student learning.

StudyBlue, founded in 2009, is a San Francisco, CA based startup providing a cloud platform and iOS and Android apps for students to create, organize, share materials, and study. StudyBlue was founded by Christopher Klündt as he graduated in computer science and biomedical engineering from UW-Madison. The company reports over 5.5 million users and 200 million study materials available. Although the service was initially targeted for higher education, middle and high school students are among the users. StudyBlue has raised over $20 million since its founding in 2009.
